Spit Road Cycle Path Design
Client: Mosman Municipal Council
Lambert & Rehbein were engaged by Mosman Municipal Council to undertake concept and detailed design needed to be for the Spit Road bicycle route from the Spit Bridge to Parriwi Road. The cycle route is part of the Roads and Maritime Services Regional Route and is critical to linking cyclists from the northern beaches to the city. There are multiple users and constraints along the corridor of the proposed cycle path that needed to be considered throughout the design process. These included vehicular access to commercial premises, parking, bus stops, pedestrian access, alterations to the Parriwi Road / Spit Road intersection and the existing Spit Bridge structure.
The project team developed three concept designs for Council’s public consultation with the preferred option proceeding to the detailed design stage.
This project also included an audit of the existing Roads and Maritime Services Alternative Regional Bicycle Route from Figtree Walk to North Sydney. The output of the audit was to prepare a concept plan showing key areas of improvement along the existing route as well as undertaking the following key tasks:
- Investigated ways of overcoming the existing topographical issues along the route;
- Assessed the potential use of a ‘bicycle lift’ at the southern end of the route section; and
- Identified sections of the route that were suitable for an on road cycleway, separated cycleway, or shared pedestrian / cycle path.
